The first-ever Kalbi Burger Challenge will pit enthusiastic eaters in a contest to see who loves Koreatown’s iconic burger the most.  Specifically, the WINNER will be the competitor who is first to finish four (4) of the signature burgers OR whoever eats the most of those burgers within the contest time period of 10 minutes.

The PRIZE is not only the prestige of being forever known as the winner of the inaugural Kalbi Burger Challenge. The winner is also guaranteed a complimentary all-you-can-eat meal at the next competitive eating challenge hosted by the Visit Koreatown organization.

Local personalities selected to compete are YouTube dance star Joseph Villarroel, LAHaninFitness health ambassador Tiger Joo, and musician and fashionista Ai Cherie (the only female competitor). Three wildcard slots were given to contestants who submitted qualifying statements, photos, and videos — they are Jun David @TofuProd, Corndog @ChrisCorning, and Dex @TheAppleMonkey.

RULES OF THE KALBI BURGER CHALLENGE

Each contestant will be provided with a choice of either soda or water as a beverage during the competition.  Four 16-ounce cups will be filled with the beverage beforehand and be available and ready before the start of the competition.

Contestants must consume one burger before proceeding to the next burger.

Contestants must wait for the starting signal before commencing to eat and may not touch any food prior to the starting signal.

Contestants must stop eating at the ending signal.

Contestants may not put additional burger or portions of burger in their mouths after the ending signal, but will be allowed 15 seconds to swallow any burger already in their mouth.

If a contestant regurgitates at any point during the competition, that contestant is disqualified.

NO DUNKING ALLOWED. The burgers shall not be defiled by submersion into the beverage.

Contestants will be asked to sign waivers absolving the event organizers and sponsors of liability for any possible harm incurred in their participation.

FACTS ABOUT KALBI BURGER

Kalbi Burger was the “Crowd Favorite” at the 2010 Korean BBQ Cook-Off.

Kalbi Burger opened its first and singular location on June 16, 2010.

All the beef, chicken and pork used in the burgers are free of hormones and antibiotics.

The signature Kalbi Burger is made from a blend of fresh ground short rib meat and ground chuck. Other ingredients in the burger include American cheese, romaine lettuce, Korean vinaigrette, red onions, tomato, and kalbi aioli sauce.

Each patty used in the signature Kalbi Burgers weighs approximately 6.8 ounces.

The owner Hawk Lee was a military aeronautical engineer for 17 years before opening KB.

Kalbi Burger is the only place in the Koreatown area where Coolhaus gourmet ice-cream sandwiches are available.
